Founder’s Story

Why is a Scottish guy making furniture in Bangladesh?

It’s a question I get asked a lot. The honest answer? It’s a long story, but it’s also the heart of what Gallus is.

I was introduced to the creative process early in life, watching my mother design and shape spaces in Bangladesh. Those early trips left a deep imprint: the colours, the textures, the quiet skill in the hands of people who make things every day, with pride. My father, a doctor in the UK, offered a different perspective, one of precision and structure. These two contrasting worlds, each with its own philosophy, inspired me to find my own path.

Years later, I trained as a furniture designer in the UK, and something kept pulling me back - not just to the place but to a way of working that values the hand, the process, and the story behind the object.

Gallus is the bridge between those two worlds. We design in the UK and build with artisans in Bangladesh. Together, we make joyful objects that are simple, honest, thoughtful. They are not mass-produced, not rushed, just built with care.

This is the beginning of our story. Thanks for being here.

Our Philosophy

Joyful Objects for a World That’s Forgotten: How to Pause

In a world that often feels uncertain, loud, and fast, Gallus offers stillness.

Our pieces aren’t just functional.
They’re reminders
of touch,
of care,
of presence.

They are made slowly, with real hands.
By people who know what it means to shape something with intention.

We use everyday materials like plywood because joy doesn’t come from extravagance.
It comes from honesty.
From stories passed between hands.
From things that last.

Gallus is here for the quiet moments.
The morning light on a surface.
The way a shelf holds not just books, but a life.

We make joyful objects for a world that’s forgotten how to pause.
